Our Tax Advisors\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n Nick LovettTax Manager\n \n \n Nick joined us in March 2018 taking on the role as Tax Manager. Nick was recruited from the corporation tax department of the fastest growing accountancy firm in 2017 based on the Accountancy Age listing. Nick has considerable and wide-ranging experience on tax advice lines having worked in a similar role between 2012 and 2016. At that time he was required to deal with all major taxes involving consultancy reports and IR35 contract reviews involving research into the technicalities of legislation. He also undertook presentations and seminars to accountants and companies, significantly to address the IR35 rules and interpretation thereof but numerous other subjects as well.\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\tNick specialises in IR35, capital allowances corporate taxes and planning and HMRC investigations.\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\tNick has spent his entire career working in tax and has worked for Grant Thornton, Moore Stephens and Tenon in both personal tax and corporate tax teams.>\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n Elaine WoodTax Consultant\n \n \n \n Elaine is a former Inspector of Taxes with 23 years\u2019 experience in various departments of HMRC. Involved in technical decision making, investigations for both personal and corporate enquiries, together with attendance at appeal hearings.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tElaine spent the latter part of her career with HMRC as a Self Assessment educator delivering seminars and tutorials to both accountancy practices and traders. On leaving HMRC Elaine took up a role as Tax Manager in a mixed accountancy practice where Elaine\u2019s work covered all areas of taxation, along with supporting and training junior staff and an involvement in a business development programme for local enterprises. Since 2010 solely employed on tax advice lines covering all aspects of taxation, but specialising in enquiry work and capital gains tax issues.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n Paul McKenzieTax Associate\n \n \n \n Paul qualified as an accountant (ACCA) in 1988 and joined KPMG as an Audit Manager and gained initial experience of company taxation. He moved on to concentrate on taxation at AT&T where he was responsible for Corporation Tax for all UK companies of the group as well as PAYE\/P11D year-end routines. He also had responsibility for overseeing PWC completion of European subsidiaries VAT returns.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tPaul moved to take a role as Tax Advice Line Manager at Mentor Services (part of RBS) in 2001 before joining us in 2010 where he took on the role of Advice Line Manager before more recently moving to an associate role.\n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n Julie RoseTax Consultant\n \n \n Julie joined us in September 2003 as a Tax Consultant, having spent the previous 18 years working at the Inland Revenue. Whilst at the Revenue she was a Revenue Officer and spent the last 6 years working on a telephone unit giving PAYE and Self-Assessment advice and assistance to Accountants and Taxpayers.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tJulie advises clients on all aspects of tax and payroll.\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n Linda EalesTax Associate\n \n \n Linda worked for HM Revenue & Customs as a Tax Officer for nine years and then went on to work for a local accountancy firm as a Tax Senior dealing with all types of business, companies and individuals. She then commenced working as Tax Consultant on a helpline for a large publishing company before joining us during September 2000 where she was promoted to Tax & Tax Claims Manager for Tax Fee Protection Insurance.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tLinda moved to Taxwise in 2007 where she ran the claims and tax advice department, before re-joining us in 2011 as a Tax Consultant. Linda deals with all aspects of tax but specialises in IR35 and has particular expertise in the settlements legislation and was involved in the Artic System case.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n Carl WhittakerTax Associate\n \n \n \n Carl is a former Inspector of Taxes who, whilst with the Revenue, lectured at the Taxes Training Centre and also spent some time in investigations. Following the Revenue he spent 12 years in practice and was Director of Tax for a large northern Chartered Accountancy practice.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tCarl specialises in Construction Industry matters, Status, Appeals before the Commissioners of Income Tax, IR35 and also HMRC investigations, he has successfully represented clients before the Commissioners of Income Tax challenging HMRC\u2019s refusal to renew CIS 5 and 6 certificates.\n \n \n \n \n \n\t\t\n\t\t\n \n \n \n\n\n\n John RiseboroughTax Consultant\n \n \n \n John started his career in tax in 1977 joining the Inland Revenue at West Bromwich.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tAfter 13 years and following promotions, he was headhunted out to a local accountancy practice in Birmingham. Over the following years he worked at various small accountancy firms around the East and West Midlands. A major change took pace in 2004 when John took on a role as an advisor to accountants, role he has fulfilled since then. April 2019 saw John\u2019s arrival at Vantage Fee Protect.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tA tax generalist, John also specialises in Stamp Taxes and cross border taxation. John will always look for the practical applications of the rules to a particular situation.\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nOur VAT Advisors\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n Jane DeeksVAT Associate\n \n \n After graduating in law Jane became a Solicitor by qualification and a practising Chartered Tax Advisor, specialising in VAT. She is also a member of the VAT Practitioner Group. Jane has over 20 years experience starting her career as a graduate trainee with PwC. She has worked for three of the top four accountancy firms, a small tax boutique practice specialising in VAT investigations and litigation, as well as a small and medium tier accountancy practice where she was responsible for setting up and running the VAT departments.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tJane has experience in dealing with large corporate clients, as well as smaller OMBs. She understands the needs of the big companies and the passion, or sometimes the despair, of the sole trader. Jane\u2019s experience extends to all areas of VAT. She has particular experienced in land and property, partial exemption, planning and consultancy.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tJane joined Vantage in May 2019 and has extensive experience having previously worked on a VAT telephone helpline in the past.\n \n\n \n \n \n\t\t\n \n \n \n\n\n\n Tony PocockVAT Consultant\n \n \n Tony joined us directly from HMRC where he has spent the last 25 years dealing with VAT issues. Many of those years he has been heavily involved in VAT compliance work including visits to ensure businesses are meeting their obligations and has dealt with 100s of VAT enquiries. He was part of the VAT Education Team supporting SME businesses from registration to complex VAT matters.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tWith his vast experience of VAT at all levels he is in a perfect position to advise and support clients as to how to best avoid VAT disputes with HMRC.\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n Annette WoodsVAT Consultant\n \n \n Annette has 28 years\u2019 experience in Industry working on indirect tax compliance for multinational companies. She has particular expertise in international and cross-border VAT and has lived and worked in the UK and Germany and has spent the majority of her career on assignments in major European countries.\n\t\t\t\t\t\tAnnette then worked in an Accountancy practice for two years as a VAT Manager and since 2014 she has been working as a VAT consultant on the VAT advice helplines.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n Tony TrotmanVAT Associate\n \n \n \n Tony spent 22 years in HMRC dealing with all aspects of VAT, Customs and Excise duties in various parts of the country. He then moved into private practice with a firm of accountants in Birmingham to establish a consultancy service dealing with VAT, imports and exports and disputes with HMRC. Tony has been working with us since the company was formed and has advised on all aspects of VAT including representing clients at VAT Tribunals.
